Dr. Zongquing Zhou
Thank you all for your support of ISTTE and for casting your ballots for me. I am very grateful that I have been elected to serve as the President of ISTTE. For the past 25 years, I have been very loyal to ISTTE, serving on its Board twice and attending nearly every annual conference.
Among all the memberships and annual conferences, I decided to prioritize on ISTTE. The reasons are simple: 1) ISTTE is a closely-knit organization with a focus on tourism education, 2) it draws people who are not only seeking academic knowledge but love to make friends as well, and 3) it provides an opportunity to get connected with people from all over the world as well as from all levels of tourism education from high schools all way up to research-oriented universities.
Its publication Journal of Teaching in Travel and Tourism serves as a platform for disseminating advanced and innovative teaching methodologies and other related issues. It is an organization that is worth my time and energy to keep and to help grow.
During my tenure as President, my priorities are to grow ISTTE, making it the home of all tourism educators. We will continue to place emphasis on tourism education, but reach out to other tourism-related professionals. We will strike a balance between academic research and education-related pedagogies and practices. We will make our ISTTE website a tourism education clearinghouse where members can obtain conference proceedings, workshop materials, employment opportunities, innovative teaching methodologies and practices and many others. I will be working closely with the Board of Directors to create an organization that members can call home. I hope to have your continued support. I am already looking forward to our 2020 annual conference in Iceland. I hope to see you all there.
