Dean of the Hospitality College

Johnson & Wales University is seeking an experienced professional to effectively lead the Hospitality College located on the main campus of JWU in Providence, RI.

THE UNIVERSITY: A professionally focused teaching university, Johnson & Wales University provides an exceptional education that inspires professional success and personal and intellectual growth. A private non-profit institution that is now approaching its centennial year, the university enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its four geographically dispersed campuses in degree programs through the doctoral level, though it remains largely an undergraduate teaching institution.

THE COLLEGE: The Hospitality College at JWU enrolls over 4,000 students across the university’s campuses in a range of Bachelor’s degrees, including programs in Hotel & Lodging Management; International Hotel & Tourism Management; Restaurant, Food & Beverage Management; Sports/Entertainment/Event Management; Travel-Tourism & Hospitality Management; and Food Service Management. Hospitality enrollment at the Providence Campus is approximately 2,400 students. Hospitality faculty at JWU have extensive industry experience in addition to academic credentials, providing students with information on real-world experiences as well as connections to contacts currently working in the hospitality industry.

THE DEAN: The dean acts as the ranking official of The Hospitality College for the university and is responsible for the content and quality of the academic programs offered, fostering an environment of continual improvement and innovation to maintain excellence in teaching and learning. The specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Oversees the academic, fiscal, and physical environments in which academic programs are delivered;
• Leads academic planning, administration, and evaluation for The Hospitality College;
• Develops and implements the annual academic plan for The Hospitality College;
• Conducts faculty recruitment, assessment, and development;
• Promotes and fosters positive and collegial relationships between faculty, staff and students;
• Leads The Hospitality College in enrollment, planning, and resource development;
• Acts as a university ambassador for community, advancement, and admissions initiatives; and
• Prepares and monitors departmental budget.


REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate for the Dean position will have the following education and employment experience:

• Minimum of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
• Five or more years of executive-level management experience in a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent setting; and
• An earned doctoral degree is preferred.
