John C. Crotts, Ph. D., is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the College of Charleston. Prior to this position, he lectured in the Advanced Business Programme on tourism subjects at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand and was Director of the Center for Tourism Research and Development at the University of Florida. His research encompasses the areas of economic psychology, tourism marketing strategy, and management of cooperative alliances. In 2000 the Travel and Tourism Research Association recognized him as one of five stars in tourism research worldwide. In 2004, the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of Hong Kong Polytechnic University ranked him in the top one percent of scholars worldwide for his published research productivity. In addition to serving as the founding editor of International Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Administration, he also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism and the Scandinavian Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Dr. Crotts received his PhD in Leisure Studies and Services from the University of Oregon in 1981. He also holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Appalachian State University, a M.S. in Education from Mankato State University and an Ed.S in Adult Education from the Appalachian State University.
